About the event
"At age 21, pianist Raquel Fisk is already a seasoned concert artist who has performed in recitals, in chamber music ensembles and as soloist with orchestras around the world. Her repertoire ranges from Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven to contemporary and Latin styles with a special affinity and love for the great romantics such as Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Rachmaninoff. Fluent in 4 languages, she sees herself as an international ambassador for music and its transformational power to connect people of good will around the globe. Highlights of Raquel’s international career have included a tour in 2014 in major cities in China including Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Taicang and, in 2015, her debut as soloist with orchestra in Camille Saint -Saens’ demanding Concerto Nr. 2 in G minor with the famous Orquesta Sinfónica de Xalapa (Mexico) under the direction of Maestro LanFranco Marceletti.
In addition to frequent performances in the Boston area (including numerous concerts in Jordan Hall) Raquel performed twice in New York City’s Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall as back to back winner of the AFAF Auditions and to critical acclaim at the famous Bethlehem Bach Festival. In both 2015 and 2016 Raquel won first prize in the Bay State Piano Competition and in 2017, within the space of one week, won first prize in both the Senior Division of the Rhode Island Piano Extravaganza Competition and the Steinway Competition held in Boston, where she also received a special prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary work for her performance of music by Phillip Glass. She began piano study at the age of three and by age five could sing large portions of Mozart’s Zauberfloete by ear. From the age of 12 she studied privately with the remarkable Boston – based Niva Fried, whose guidance opened the doors to discovery.
In the 2019-20 academic year she attended the famous Scuola di Musica di Fiesole –Italy, studying under world renowned virtuoso, Andrea Lucchesini. Although her time there was cut short by the COVID, she returned to America fluent in Italian and in the fall of 2020 entered Boston University on a special merit scholarship as a member of the class of the superb pianist, Professor Gila Goldstein.
Despite the intermittent lockdowns caused by the pandemic, Raquel continues to perform both virtually and, whenever possible, live, and to teach online in various languages on three continents."
